Owen Preece is a photographer making work about grief, identity, and our connection to the natural world.

Owen was born in Dallas, Texas where he lived with his family until moving to Oregon at the age of ten. His life and work are informed by the contrasting cultures he witnessed while splitting his childhood between Texas and Oregon. Owen seeks to tell stories that highlight our shared human experience. Through emotional, contemplative images, he feels that a bridge of empathy and understanding can be built. Owen studied photography and design at Oregon State University, where he began work on his first long-term project, First Times and Last Times, which documents a time of extreme transition for his grandparents, Robert and Linda, as the nature of their relationship changes following Linda's Alzheimer's diagnosis. Owen later earned a master's degree in Environmental Science and Natural Resource Journalism from the University of Montana, where he began making work exploring how humans are connected to the land and to each other. Owen now lives in Missoula, Montana with his fiancée, Ani, and makes frequent trips back to the Pacific Northwest. Owen looks forward to learning new things about the world whenever he picks up a camera.
